OSWEGO, NY – Edward J. “Ted” Callaghan, 89, a resident of 88 E. Seventh St., died on Wednesday July 23, 2008, at his home with his family by his side.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Edward T. and Margaret (Hogan) Callaghan.
He was a graduate of St. Paul’s Academy, Oswego High School and the Rochester Business Institute.
Mr. Callaghan was a salesman for the John Hancock Insurance Company for more than 35 years.
He was a veteran, serving with the U.S. Army during World War 2.
Mr. Callaghan was a member of St. Paul’s Holy Name Society and was a member of its choir.
He was a former member of the Knights of the Columbus and enjoyed playing trumpet.
His favorite hobbies were playing a round of golf and watching his favorite team, the New York Yankees, on television.
Surviving are three daughters, Ann (John) Allen of Syracuse, Cathy (Gary) Cunningham of Minetto and Meg (Craig) Gaffney of Fulton; seven grandchildren, Kathleen (Brian) Bresnan, Emily (Joseph) Amendola, Caroline Allen, Jason Cunningham, Amy (Brett) Haogan, Sara (Jim) Enwright, C.J. Gaffney and six great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret, in 1998; his daughter, Beth, in 1970; and his son, Timothy, in 1952.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. from St. Paul’s Church.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-7 p.m.
The family requests that any contributions be made either to St. Paul’s Church or Unity Acres.
