Frank Brian Jonientz

OSWEGO – Oswego County native Frank Brian Jonientz, 70, passed away on May 27, 2025 at his residence in Hamden, CT. He was born and raised in Fulton as the seventh child of the late Frank and Ann Kostyszyn Jonientz. His childhood and adolescence were enlivened by seven sisters and a younger brother, as well as extended family members nearby. During summers, Frank was a counselor at Camp Hollis, run by the Oswego County Youth Bureau.
After graduating from G. Ray Bodley High School in 1973, he earned a bachelor’s degree in history at Syracuse University and later studied school psychology at Southern Connecticut State University. Frank’s career began as a logistics planner for the Department of Defense in Philadelphia, where he married Chris Lees. They moved in the 1990s to Connecticut, where Frank worked for New Haven’s Department of Welfare, a statewide social services referral service and the Connecticut State Library in Hartford. Since 2014, Frank worked at Miller Memorial Library in Hamden.
Frank was an engaged member of the Unitarian Society of New Haven, enjoyed history and politics, was an ardent SU sports fan, ran in many 5K road races and was an avid reader, writer, trivia night participant and sharer of humor. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Kathleen Jonientz. He is also survived locally by sisters Susan and Kathleen Jonientz, Marilyn Boucher, Claudia Cook, Dorothy Tetro and Michele Hartnagle, as well as nieces and nephews in Central New York and beyond. He was predeceased by sister Teresa Abraham and brother Paul Jonientz.
