Edward B. ‘Ed’ Fyler, 78

PHOENIX, NY – Edward B. “Ed” Fyler, 78, of Phoenix, passed away unexpectedly on Friday January 6, 2017, at home.

He was born in Syracuse, NY, to his late parents, Helen (Neupert) and Eldon C. Fyler on April 28, 1938.

He was active in Boy Scouts.

Ed graduated from C. W. Baker High School, Baldwinsville, class of 1956.

He served in the US Army from 1957-59.

Ed was a truck driver and a member of the Teamsters Local Union # 317, Syracuse.

He was a former president for the Phoenix Lions Club; member of the Syracuse Pistol Club in Clay; enjoyed hunting and fishing; a proud New York Yankee fan; and he loved to go to the Turning Stone Casino with friends and family.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Walter in 1981 and James in 1954.

Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Leanne (Bettinger) Fyler; his children, Debra (Brian) Dates, Carolyn (Mike) Sacco, Ed Fyler and Jan (Steve) Strathmann; his sister-in-law Melissa Bettinger (Nancy Reed Carpenter); six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends; his beloved canine, Bailey.

A Catholic Mass will be on Tuesday, January 10, at 9 a.m. in St. Stephen’s Church, 469 Main St., Phoenix, with the Rev. Philip Brockmyre officiating.

Burial will follow the mass in Pine Plains Cemetery, 8686 Henry Clay Blvd., Clay, NY 13041, where a military honor guard will offer veteran honors.
