PHOENIX – Gary E. Fairbanks, 82, of Phoenix, NY, Lysander township, passed away on Thursday March 30, 2023 at his home. Born to his late parents Edna (Finley) & Judson E. Fairbanks on June 10, 1940 in Gouverneur, NY.
He attended Clifton-Fine Central Schools. Gary served in the U.S. Army, 1963-1966 including Vietnam tour of duty. He was a machinist for the Nestle Co., Fulton, NY for 37 years. He was a builder of his own home and assisted his daughter Lauri at her family medical practice. Gary enjoyed sports and was an avid hunter.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his son Gerald Fairbanks in 1990; his brothers Douglas in 1992, and Karl in 2004; his brother-in-law Edward Soble in 2022. Surviving are his loving wife of nearly 59 years, Carolyn A. (Pendergast) Fairbanks; his daughter Dr. Lauri Fairbanks-Doane & her husband Robert Doane of Phoenix; son Mark S. (Sarah) Fairbanks of Marathon, NY; daughter Brenda (Nathan) Tomkins of Trumansburg, NY; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother Dale A. Fairbanks of Fulton, NY; sisters Bonnie (James) Mahon of Cicero, and Janice Soble of Hastings, NY; several nieces & nephews, cousins.
Calling hours are on Sunday April 2, 2023 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix, NY
Services are on Monday April 3, 2023 at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen’s Church, 469 Main Street. Phoenix, NY, with Rev. James C. Fritzen officiating and Deacon Jeffrey Dean assisting.
