Gordon W. McKay, 79

PHOENIX, NY – Gordon W. McKay, 79, of Schroeppel (Sand Ridge), passed away on Thursday Jan. 18, 2018, at his home.

He was born in Syracuse to his late parents, Ida (Pickard) and George McKay on Oct. 26, 1938.

He was a graduate of Williamsville High School, Buffalo State University and Oswego State University, in teaching.

He was a USAF veteran, serving from 1956-60.

Gordon was an electrician for Allied Chemical Co., Syracuse and a substitute teacher in
the surrounding area schools.

He was an active member and trustee for Pennellville United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Carolyn A. (Widmer) McKay; his daughter, Kimberly Ann McKay of Portland, Ore.; his son, Christopher G. (Amber L. (Abbott) McKay of Phoenix; four grandchildren; one sister, Karen (Howard) Smith of Pennsylvania; nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held only on Tuesday Jan. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix, NY.

A Remembrance Gathering will be later this year, with details to follow.
