Lucy Catherine (Lynch) Montanaro

PENNELLVILLE, NY – Lucy Catherine (Lynch) Montanaro, age 93, of (Pennellville) Schroeppel Town, New York, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, July 6, 2022.

Born on May 11, 1929 on Onondaga Hill, New York, to her late parents, Catherine Ann (Strickland) and Chester Lynch. Lucy was a graduate of Split Rock High School, Onondaga Town.

During her lifetime Lucy was the Director of Religious Education for three Catholic parishes, including Our Lady of Pompeii in Syracuse, NY. Besides raising her family, she was very involved with many organizations.

To name a few – Oswego County Opportunities; American Cancer Society; NYS Catholic Conference; Director of R. E. at St. Stephen’s Church, Phoenix, NY as well as its Altar Rosary Society; Diocese of Syracuse Pastoral Council Chairperson; Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year in 1981; Town of Schroeppel Community Services Commissioner.

Lucy was predeceased by her loving husband of 61 years, Tony F. Montanaro on December 6, 2017; her sisters Frances Lanning, and Jessie Adams; her brothers George Lynch, Chester “Bob” Lynch, William Lynch, and James Lynch.

Surviving are her daughters, Peggy Montanaro (Staring), Betty Corey (Doug), Theresa Demo (Richard), Lucy Grenga (Scot), and Mary Stone (Gerald); 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces, and nephews; and friends.

Calling hours are on Monday July 11, 2022 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main St., Phoenix, NY 13135.

The mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday July 12, 2022 at 10 a.m. in Saint Stephen’s Church, 469 Main St., Phoenix, NY. The Rev.

Joseph E. Scardella will be officiating as well as Deacon Jeff Dean participating in the funeral mass.
