PHOENIX, NY – Merton Richard Shaw, 77, of Phoenix, NY passed away at home with his family by his side on December 13, 2024.

He was born in Pulaski, NY to his late parents Helen (Frank) and Thomas Merton Shaw, Jr. on June 8, 1947. Merton was a graduate of Pulaski High School, class of 1965. He then served in the U.S. Army. Later Mert joined the American Legion Post 358 where he was a life member and was presented his 50 years of service award in 2022. He was a past commander of Post 358.

Mert was employed at Church & Dwight Manufacturing Company in Syracuse, NY for 30 years. He spent 10 years as a Solvay school bus driver.

He was predeceased by his brothers Thomas Shaw, III, Frederick Shaw, and Claude Shaw; his sisters Nancy Wood, Linda Zayon; and his granddaughter Whitney Kranz.

Surviving are his loving wife of 24 years, Cherie J. (Morgan) Shaw; his daughter Shelly Kranz (Terry); his son Merton R. Shaw, II; his step-daughters Karen Harris-Allen (Jake), and Jennifer McGrew (Edward); his step-son Scott Harris; his seven grandchildren Kari Thomas (Steven), Ty Kranz (Stephanie), Jadyn Shaw, Zander Harris, Evelyn Harris, Jasmine Allen, and Hailey McGrew; three great-grandchildren Whitlee and Weston Thomas, and Tucker Clark; a brother Earl Shaw; three sisters Judy Bouchard (Jason), Kathy Torrence (Don), and Frances Fox; nieces, nephews, and cousins; and friends. The favorite pets, dog Princess, and cat Penney.

Calling hours are on Monday December 16, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, 431 Main Street, Phoenix, NY. Funeral services are on Tuesday December 17, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Don McGrew officiating. Spring burial will occur in the Daysville Cemetery, 6930-6950 NY 3, Pulaski, (town of Richland).
