OSWEGO COUNTY – October 2, 2025, Bart B. Baker, 86, of Palermo passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Oswego on February 16, 1939 to Walter and Dorothea Baker and was a graduate of Mexico Academy. He enlisted into the U.S Air Force in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1959. Bart continued serving his country and enlisted into the U.S. Coast Guard where he served as a Merchant Seaman. He was a life member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #545, Syracuse. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator and master mechanic at Burns Brothers Construction for over 30 years until his retirement at the age of 62. In his younger years he was an avid deer hunter and fisherman. Bart enjoyed watching football and spending time with his grandchildren. He could fix just about anything and he liked to spend time tending to his flowers and maintaining his yard.
He is survived by his sons, Scott B. Baker of Fair Haven and Timothy (Mary) Baker of Millerton, PA; his sister, Sue (George) Peterson of New Haven; his brother, Donald Baker of Lockport; nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased his wife of 61 years, Sandra S. Baker in 2022; his daughter, Deborah Sue Baker in 2001; his brothers, Theodore “Ted”, Walter “Windy” and Earl Edward Baker; his sisters, Hertha “Tooty” Merritt, Barbara Inget, Donna Baker and Joan Leroy.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, October 9, 2025 with services to follow at Brown Funeral Home, 21 Flood Drive in Fulton. Private burial will be in Mount Adnah Cemetery, Fulton.
