CARSON, CA – Joseph F. “Joe” Stevens Sr., 87. passed away peacefully at his home in Carson, California on Sunday, May 28, 2023. Joe was born January 24, 1936 in Houston, Texas to Joseph and Mary Stevens and was a graduate of Lamar high school in 1954.
He attended the University of Texas in Austin where he studied geology from 1955 to 1956. Shortly after he married Sherry Jo Duncan in 1958 and accepted a position with Milchem and they started their adventure of travel all over the world. They had three children that got to enjoy an upbringing in North Africa, London and Singapore where he retired from Drexel Oil Field Services.
Joe remarried in 1998 to Divina Magpale. Together they brought Mary Grace Stevens into this world. Joe Stevens enjoyed a lifetime of working in the oil business, eventually starting his own business in Singapore. Joe was a kind loving person and a devout Christian. He loved to entertain and BBQ on the weekends where he would often invite anyone who wanted to come over. Joe retired in 2001 and lived in the Philippines for a few years before returning to the states, eventually settling in California.
Joe is survived by his wife Divina Stevens; his children Oteka Marie (Craig) McClain and Rebecca Lynne “Sunny” Stevens both of Austin, TX; Joe (Gidget) Stevens of Fulton, NY, Mary Grace and David Stevens of Carson, CA as well as five grandchildren. Joe is predeceased by his parents Joe and Mary Stevens; his sisters Presh Sparks and Jan Fry and his brother Bill Stevens.
