Jean Fay (Plourde) Hogan

OSWEGO – Jean Fay (Plourde) Hogan, 89, of Oswego, New York, passed away peacefully on Sunday evening, August 16, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family and her longtime caregiver, Cathy Kingsley.

Jean was born on August 21, 1936, in Concord, New Hampshire, the daughter of the late Edward R. and Lillian Bennett Plourde. She spent most of her childhood and young adult years in Concord, where she attended School. The friendships Jean formed during those years remained important to her throughout her life, and she continued to stay connected with many of those lifelong friends.

Following high school, Jean attended Beauty School and became a hairdresser. With her independent spirit and strong work ethic, she eventually opened and operated her own hair salon in Concord.

In 1960, Jean and a friend packed their belongings and headed west to California to be closer to her parents. It was in Santa Barbara, California, that Jean met the love of her life, John Hogan. The two were married in 1963 and began a loving partnership that would span more than 57 years.

After welcoming three daughters in California, Jean and John left the California sunshine in 1967 and moved their young family to Vermont to be closer to family. While living in Vermont, they welcomed their son, completing the Hogan family.

In 1972, the Hogans moved from Vermont to Oswego, New York, the community they would proudly call home for the next 54 years. Jean and John became deeply rooted in Oswego and were active members of the community. Over the decades, they developed countless friendships, and there were few places they could go without running into someone they knew.

Throughout her years in Oswego, Jean held several positions, including employment with Stone & Webster, Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station, and Oswego High School, where she worked in the English Resource Center. She later spent many years working in the Admissions Office at SUNY Oswego, where she enjoyed being part of the college community.

Jean believed strongly in service, faith, family, and community. She was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Ladies Auxiliary and the Columbiettes. In 2017, Jean was honored as Columbiette of the Year by the Oswego Council, an acknowledgment of her commitment and service to the organization and her community.

One of Jean’s greatest joys was golf. She was an active member of the Oswego Country Club and continued her membership throughout her life. Her family and friends knew how much she loved being on the golf course. Several years ago, Jean even surprised herself when she achieved the golfer’s dream—a hole-in-one on the fourth hole.

Jean was also an accomplished competitive golfer. In 1991, she was the President’s Cup Champion at Oswego Country Club, and in 2004, she earned the title of President’s Cup Champion at Springbrook Country Club.

At the heart of Jean’s life was her deep Christian faith. She was a communicant of Christ the Good Shepherd Church and a former communicant of St. Joseph’s Church. Jean and John were devoted Christians whose faith guided their marriage, family, and service to others. Beginning in 1976, they were actively involved in the development and founding of the Lord’s Delight Prayer Community, which became an important part of their spiritual lives and the friendships they treasured.

Above all else, Jean’s greatest legacy was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, neighbor, and friend. Her home and her heart were always connected to the people she loved.

Jean was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Hogan, who passed away on December 11, 2020, and by her two brothers, William Graves and Raymond Plourde.

She is survived by her three daughters, Linda (Patrick) Dowd of Oswego, New York; Kathleen “Katy” Hogan Prisco of Folsom, California; and Coleen “Coco” (Daniel) Hogan Hale of Sebastian, Florida; and her son, Michael “Hoagie” (Kerry) Hogan of Auburn, New York.

Jean is also survived by her two stepbrothers, Peter (Misty) Graves of Anna, Texas, and Matthew Graves of Ventura, California; six grandchildren, John, Jessica, Kobe, Finley, Tucker, and Teagan; and two great-grandchildren, Jianna and Blakeley.

She will also be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, neighbors, lifelong friends, golfing companions, and members of her church and community—far too many to mention individually, but each of whom held a special place in Jean’s life.

Jean’s life was filled with faith, family, friendship, laughter, service, and love. From New Hampshire to California, Vermont, and ultimately Oswego, she built a lifetime of relationships and memories. Her legacy will live on through the family she loved so dearly, the friendships she nurtured, the community she served, and the faith that sustained her throughout her life.

Calling hours will be held Friday, August 21, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, August 22, 10AM in Christ The Good Shepherd Church.

Internment will be in Vermont at the convenience of the family.
