Virginia Lou DuPre Tyo

OSWEGO – At 95 years of age, Virginia Lou DuPre Tyo passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at St. Luke Health Care Facility.

Virginia was born February 22, 1929 in Caughdenoy, NY to Floyd and Marian Moon DuPre. She married Russell Charles Tyo in October, 1951.

In 1955 they moved to Scriba from Constantia with their first two children and added two more children as the years went by. They continued to raise all four children in Scriba.

Virginia was a homemaker in every sense of the word. She stayed very busy between the children, gardening, canning, cooking and taking care of the house.  Then add taking care of Russell she was over the top busy! Virginia was known for her homemade jams, pickles, baking (gingerbread cookies) and strawberry shortcake.

In 1994 they moved to Redfield after Russell’s retirement, which they both loved! Fishing in the creek for trout, reading, flowers, birds and Russell kept Virginia very busy still. She was always a country girl. She even showed her son-in-law how to skin a turkey.

In 2006 back to Scriba they came. In all the homes they lived in, family and friends were always welcomed! Virginia and Russell had a good life.

Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Russell in 2017, her brother, Lynn DuPre in 1963, and her sister, June Deeley in 2010.

She is survived by her children, Rodney (Arlene) Tyo, Catherine (Daniel) Mulcahey, Annette Tyo and Martin (Jacqueline) Tyo, Grandchildren, Jacob, Justin, Adam, Athena, Erica, Matthew, Andrew, Nicholas and Alexandria, and 15 great grandchildren.

Per Marty, the self-proclaimed baby of the family, Rodney & Cathy were the trouble makers and Annette was the goody two shoes.

Calling hours will be Monday, June 10th from 4-6PM at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home with a service to follow at 6PM.

Graveside services will be held in Hillside Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
