Dolores V. (Ravas) St. John

OSWEGO, NY – Dolores V. (Ravas) St. John, 80, of Oswego, passed peacefully at the home of her daughter, Denise, on Thursday Feb. 10, 2011, surrounded by her family.

Dolores was born on July 6, 1930, to Caterina (Rodriquez) and Bartolomeo Ravas.

She was the youngest of 12 children born to the couple who met in Oswego after emigrating from Italy.

She graduated from Fitzhugh Park School and Oswego High School.

She was a devout Catholic and was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish.

Dolores loved being with her family and was a devoted mother and grandmother.

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, word jumbles and was an avid reader and walker.

She worked for several years at Argersinger’s Department Store and most recently was a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

She participated at the Oswego Human Concerns Center with the Wednesday crew as well as with the
Oswego Chamber Of Commerce.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 27 years, Charles W. St. John; sisters, Bertha Edwards, Nancy Ravas, Helen Ravas, Katherine Murray, Mary Mehegan and Frances Clarke; and brothers, Joseph Ravas, John Ravas, George “Irish” Ravas and Thomas Ravesi.

Dolores is survived by her daughter, Denise (Burt) St. John-Knight of Oswego and their children, Ian, Jon, Rachel and Julia and her daughter, Cathy (Jon) Bolling of Craig, Alaska, and their children, Grace and Mary; son, Jeffrey (Debbie) St. John of West Stockbridge, MA, and their children, Jessica and Tiffany and son, Charles A. St. John of Saranac Lake, NY, and his children, Amy, Andrea, Hanna and Brittany; great-grandchildren, Juliana Hector and K’ayum Gutierrez-St. John; her sister, Mrs. Irene (John) Barnard of Oswego; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Dowdle Funeral Home in Oswego.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Church in Oswego.

Dolores will be laid to rest in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
