Gertrude M. Kersey, 86

OSWEGO, NY – Gertrude M. Kersey, 86, a resident of Lycoming, passed away on Sunday March 16, 2014, at Seneca Hill Manor.

Born in Scriba, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Edna (Harris) Hopkins and had attended Oswego schools.

During her lifetime, she had worked at many Oswego stores including Wooolworth’s, Loblaws and later retired as a cook from JC Pennys.

Gertrude was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was an active member of the Lycoming United Methodist Church.

She loved the outdoors and enjoyed snowmobiling and cross-country sking.

She loved knitting and gardening.

Her passion was helping and mentoring kids.

Surviving are two daughters, Bonnie MacKenzie of Remsen and Lorie Haines of Lycoming; a brother, Charles Hopkins of Lycoming; a sister, Alice Jackson of Ohio; four grandchildren, Wendi, Mark, Starr and Justin; a sister-in-law, Nancy Hopkins of Lycoming; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Kersey; a brother, Raymond Ernest Hopkins; two sisters, Dorothea LeBouef and Viola LeBouef.

Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.

Burial will be in North Scriba Cemetery.
