Howard C. DeGroff

CENTRAL SQUARE, NY – Howard C. DeGroff, 85, a resident of Central Square, New York, passed away at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse, New York, on November 25, 2022.

Born in Oswego, New York, he was the son of the late Edgar and Lucille (Robarge) DeGroff and was a graduate of the Oswego High School.

He was a body and fender man for many local body shops and later worked at and retired from Alcan in 1993 after 20 years of service.

He was a long-time member of the Scriba United Baptist Church and its entertainment band. He was a musician who enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and camping.

Surviving are his children Cynthia (DeGroff) McManus of Oswego, Brian DeGroff of Oswego, Mark DeGroff of New Haven, Sharon (DeGroff) Mandurano of Fulton, Brenda DeGroff of Minetto, stepchildren, Burnetta (Howard) Bennett, Rhonda (Ralph) Woolson Snyder, Larry Woolson Jr., a sister, Janet Upcraft of Scriba and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marlene DeGroff, son, Douglas DeGroff, and stepdaughter, Laurie Chivers.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
