Howard J. Hall

OSWEGO – Howard J. Hall, 104, a resident of Oswego, NY passed away on
December 8, 2024.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Howard and Catherine
(Kelly) Hall and was a graduate of the St. John’s School and Oswego
High School lettering in football and gymnastics.
He was employed by Sealright Co., Inc. for 42 years.
Howard joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served with the 32nd Infantry
Division in the Pacific Theater during WWII. His unit is credited with
the most combat hours of any Division in the Pacific, and he served
gallantly in the Philippines, New Guinea – Battle of Driniumor River, and Leyte Gulf. He was in Japan days after the atomic bombs were
dropped and before the official surrender to American Forces.
A proud Honor Flight Syracuse Mission 2 alum: he was an active
supporter of local veterans’ events in the community.
Howard enjoyed all outdoor activities including camping, fishing,
twice shooting his age in golf, snowmobiling, and making road trips to
the Fiddlers Hall of Fame in Osceola. At age 97, he received a
Homeplate Veterans Honor at Yankee Stadium, enjoyed spending time
with his family as his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren kept
him young at heart.
Surviving are his daughter, Susan Chapman of Oswego, four sons,
Richard (Marybeth) Hall of Groton, NY, David (Barbara) Hall
of  Somers, NY, John Hall of Syracuse, NY, Daniel (Patricia) Hall
of  Fulton, NY, daughter-in-law, Lucinda Hall, nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife, Susan (Chalone) Hall in 2005,
son Robert Hall in 2014, and daughter-in-law, Kathleen Hall.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 from Holy Trinity Church in Fulton, NY
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00-
6:00.
Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
