John Elton Turner, 76

OSWEGO, NY – John Elton Turner, 76, passed away from cancer on Monday May 8, 2017.

He was born in Lycoming N.Y., on December 16, 1940, to the late Joseph and Thelma (Hall) Turner.

He lived most of his life in the Oswego area where he has made many friends over the years.

John was deeply loved by his wife of 17 years, Mary (Nelson) Turner; his sister, Nancy (Harry) Dunn; four children, John (Val) Turner, David Turner, Babetta (Brian) Jay and Debra Turner; five grandchildren, Kristina, John, Justin, Stephanie and Emily; three great-grandchildren; two step-children, Shelly (Brian) Lamb and Pamela Hatalak; and three step-grandchildren, Cassandra Hatalak and Cameron and Angela Lamb.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Marion Brady and Jean Machell; and a grandson, Andrew Turner.

His passion for small engine repair (the lawn mower guy) kept him very happy and busy after his truck driving career was over.

John started the “Poker Pals” which was a great group of friends who played poker every week for more than seven years.

The heat and coffee were on in the winter and the ice tea and air conditioning kept them “cool” all summer.

Pictures and memories will be shared at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 – 7 p.m.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home during the calling hours.

Cancer is a horrible life killing disease.
