John L. Sullivan

OSWEGO, NY – John L. Sullivan, who was born in Oswego to the late John L. Sullivan Sr. and Carole (Donabella) Sullivan of Oswego, passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 2, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse.

He fulfilled his dream of living in New York City for many years, then resided in Syracuse for the past 15 years.

He was a graduate of Oswego High School and SUNY at Oswego.

He was employed with Verizon for almost 20 years.

His outsized personality and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him.

He treasured Cher and other dance-music divas, enjoyed movies, playing cards and caring for his four cats, Jetty, Stella, Rusty and Blanket Edward.

Surviving besides his mother and cats are one sister, Terry Fairly of Oswego and her three children, Jennifer, Christopher and Tiffany; two brothers, Michael (Kim) Sullivan of Oswego and his children, Gina, who was also John’s goddaughter, and Michael Jr.; and Ronald Sullivan of Oswego.

He lived with his life partner of 14 years, Dan Douglass of Syracuse.

Many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends also survive John.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday at 7 p.m. from the Dowdle Funeral Home with calling hours from 5 – 7 p.m., prior to the service.
