Joseph D. Colloca, 97

OSWEGO, NY – Joseph D. Colloca, 97, a resident of Oswego, passed away on Friday August 9, 2013, at the VA Hospital in Syracuse, surrounded by all eight of his children.

Born in Oswego, he was a son of the late Sebastino and Dominica (Semario) Colloca and had attended Oswego schools.

He was the owner of the Pontiac and Deluxe Cleaners for many years.

He was also a tailor and a manager of men’s clothing stores in the Syracuse area.

Mr. Colloca was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter who enjoyed boating.

He also enjoyed gardening and was always working and fixing things.

Joe’s greatest joy was all the time he spent with his family and friends.

Surviving are his four sons, Joseph (Theresa) Colloca of Oswego, John (Janet) Colloca of Long Island, Donald (Brigitte) Colloca of Ohio and Dr. Christopher (Mindy) Colloca of Arizona; four daughters, Anne Marie Hall of Baldwinsville, Janice (Paul) Snyder of Oswego, Julie (Richard) Burger of Oswego and Patricia (Joseph) Mancino of Fulton; a brother, John (Mary Helen) Colloca of Oswego; a sister, Josephine Colloca of Oswego; 18 grandchildren;11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Eris Davey Colloca, who passed away on August 9, 2006; a sister, Mary Cutro; three brothers, Carmello Colloca, James V. Colloca and Dominic Colloca.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers at the VA Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Church, West First Street, Oswego.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Monday from 4-7 p.m.
