OSWEGO – Joseph R. Gorman, 77, a resident of Sterling passed away on July 2, 2024, at the Seneca Hill Manor.
He was born in Oswego and was a son of the late J. Edgar and Dorothy (Henderson) Gorman and had attended Oswego schools.
Mr. Gorman served in the United States Navy as a Seabee. Following his Naval service, Joe tried a few different jobs before being hired at Alcan, where he stayed for over 30 years. He started his career on the floor and because of his analytical mind, he became the working manager in Data Processing. In his retirement, Joe discovered his love of woodturning. He was a member of the Woodworkers of Central New York Chapter of the American Association of Woodturners. Joe also became a member of the Riverside Artisans of Oswego. It is here that he was able to display and sell his creations such as wooden bowls, wine stoppers, pens, and decorative items. Joe also enjoyed playing golf when he was able. His sense of humor shone through when he got together with friends and family to play cribbage, dominos, and scrabble. He loved to collect wheat pennies, and those closest to him can still hear his famous words “ pennies are our friends
”Surviving are his wife of over 57 years, the former Sandra Edwards, two daughters, Amy (Robert Fellows) Gorman of Oswego, Julie (Paul) Tombolillo of Oswego, two brothers, David (Donna) Gorman of Baldwinsville, Daniel Gorman of Oswego, a granddaughter, Katrina, and a great-granddaughter, Amelia
