Norman J. Simmons, 94

OSWEGO, NY – Norman J. Simmons, 94, a resident of the town of Oswego, passed away on Saturday February 14, 2015, at his home.

Born in Oswego, he was a son of the late Judson and Celia (Irwin) Simmons.

He graduated from the District #12 Schoolhouse in Southwest Oswego and the Hannibal High School.

He was employed as a longshoreman for many years including working in Puerto Rico for six years and he also owned and operated Simmons Farms for many years.

He was a member of both the Oswego and Sterling historical societies.

He loved to work on his tractors and was an avid hunter.

He enjoyed attending auctions.

Surviving are his companion of 20 years, Joanne Brace; two grandchildren, Kylie M. Lacey of Weedsport and Benjamin C. Frary of Minetto; a brother, Richard Simmons of Bridgeport; a devoted son-in-law, Benjamin D. Frary; a close great-nephew, Thomas Delaney; a great-granddaughter, Makenna L. Lacey; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Elsie Simmons; a daughter, Constance M. Frary; and two sisters, Myrtle LaGasse and Edna McGuire.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Journey of Faith United Methodist Church, 7721 State Route 104.

There are no calling hours.
