OSWEGO, NY – Sheila M. Whitely, 68, a resident of Oswego passed away on Sunday October 6, 2013, at Oswego Hospital.
Born in Potsdam, she was a daughter of the late James and Ida (Supernault) Barney and had attended Oswego schools.
She was employed with the Oswego Candy Works and General Electric in Syracuse before moving to Texas.
She returned to the Oswego area in June 1984.
Sheila was one of the most avid Dallas Cowboys fans ever!
She enjoyed her trivia games, researching her family history and while she loved watching all birds, she was especially well known for her love of Hummingbirds and happily shared her knowledge with everyone.
Surviving are her son, John (DeeDee Jorski) Whitely of Pulaski; a daughter, Shannon (Robert) Otts of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister, Sharon Dowie of Oswego; three brothers, Allen Barney of Madrid NY, Donald Barney of Oswego and Wayne Barney of Merkel, Texas; two grandchildren, Faith Whitely and Emily Whitely of Oswego; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by five brothers, Lyle, Stuart, Erwin, James and Truman Barney; and four sisters, June Wilson, Barbara Scruton, Wanda Pearson and Naomi Jones.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. from the Dowdle Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 5-7 p.m.
