OSWEGO – Susan Kathleen Phelps, 67 of Syracuse passed away May 4th, after a long struggle with lung disease.
Susan was born in Oswego and predeceased by parents Leonard and Betty (McCracken) Ouderkirk, two brothers Dan and Gary Ouderkirk, and one grandchild Corinthia Phelps.
Susan was an active member of the Syracuse Christian Church for many years making lasting friendships with her friendly personality and willingness to help others, she was known as Mama Sue. She worked in social work with single mothers, as a nursing assistant and provided home care for both the young and the elderly.
Susan loved birds, flowers, music, sharing her faith, and meeting new people. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Susan is survived by her husband of 47 years Samuel Phelps, two children Sam and Kim Phelps, ten grandchildren, three siblings Len and Doug Ouderkirk and Wendy Geroux of Oswego; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are at Dowdle Funeral Home on Friday, May 10th, 3-6 pm with services immediately following. Burial is on Saturday, May 11th at 10 am at Rural Cemetary.
