Thomas Patrick Conaway

OSWEGO – Thomas Patrick Conaway, 66, passed away at the Oswego Hospital on August 13, 2024, with his family by his side after fighting a courageous battle against cancer for four years.
Tom was born in Oswego N.Y. on April 7, 1958, to the late Frank and Jane Conaway and was the youngest of seven children.
Tom graduated from St.Paul’s Academy and the Oswego High School with a regent’s alternate scholarship and had attended SUNY Oswego.
Tom started his career as a Union Laborer, with projects such as Nine Point Unit 2 construction including other work on the intake tunnels and cooling towers as well as the reconstruction of the Carrier Dome.
Tom continued his working career as a Union Millwright working on most of the nuclear plant’s turbines throughout the northeast.
Tom had a strong work ethic and was proud of it.
Tom enjoyed deer hunting, ice fishing, and trapping. He also enjoyed camping and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren
He always had dogs and cat and was an avid Yankee and Green Bay Packers fan.
Surviving are his wife, the former, Lorraine Delahunt, children, Ben (Amanda) Conaway of Rochester, Nick (Maria) Conaway of Oswego, Jane E. Conaway of Fulton, Jeanene Dunham of Oklahoma, Amber (Ryan) Phelps of Baldwinsville, Jeremy (Nytesha) Dunham of North Carolina, grandchildren, Carter Conaway, Lucas Conaway, Leo Conaway, Lyla Phelps, Ava Phelps and Madilynn Mulkey.
He is also survived by his siblings, Bridget Williams of Columbus Ohio, Frank (Susan) Conaway Jr. of Oswego, Michael (Mary Ann) Conaway of Oswego, Kathy Wallace of Buena Vista, Colorado, Colleen Helvie (Ralph) Rota of New Haven, his special friends, Archie McLaughlin, Chris Kinny, Gary Holmes and Jeff Henderson.
Tom was predeceased by his sister, Jane E. Jakelsky, brothers-in-law, Steve Williams, Donald Wallace, Edward Jakelsky, and nephews Stanley Helvie and Owen Schwartz.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 11:00 from Christ the Good Shepherd Church.
Burial will be in St.Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Monday morning from 9:30 – 10:30.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jane Conaway Scholarship at Trinity Catholic School, 115 East Fifth St., Oswego, N.Y. 13126
