William C. Mercier, 95

OSWEGO, NY – William C. Mercier, 95, a resident of 150 E.  First St., passed away on Tuesday April 7, 2010, at St. Luke Health Services.

Born in Oswego, he was the son of late William and Emma (Shepard) Mercier and had attended Oswego schools.

He was employed with the St. Regis Paper, Fort Ontario and Oswego Castings.

Mr. Mercier was well known in the Oswego area for being the Chief Bailiff at the County Courthouse for 30 years.

William was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a former member of the Elks.

Surviving are nieces and nephews among are William (Missy) Mercier, Mary (John) Heaney, Mary Lou (Al) Ferguson, Bill (Teresa) Reedy and Dave (Pat) Reidy.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Ellen M. (Helen) Mercier in 1970 and his second wife, Marguerite A. (Marge) Mercier in 2009.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. from St. Paul’s Church.

Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-8 p.m.
