Abiu (Abi) Velasquez

FULTON – January 31, 2024, Abiu (Abi) Velasquez, 24, of Fulton, NY, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. His family is deeply saddened by his sudden death. Abi was born on November 12, 1999, in Oswego, NY.

He is survived by his mother, Shannon Clearwater; sisters, Chey and Julia Velasquez; brother, Marco Velasquez; grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Abi was a very special soul who faced many challenges. In 2023, after successfully completing treatment, he stayed in Canton, NY. Abi was so excited to move into his “abpartment” with his beloved pet, Hitty and would have soon started a new job.

To say that Abi was the musician of the family is an understatement. He was always creating music with his guitar, harmonica, or keyboard and had a special talent for writing lyrics. If he wasn’t sharing his own songs with his family, he was praising his favorite musicians, Bob Dylan, and David Bowie.

Abi was strong-willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and the greatest sense of humor. He was witty, charismatic, and self-assured. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences. He will be remembered for his ability to get his way with a half smirk and an amusing cat meme. He truly loved his “Abi family” and consistently strived to make them proud.

We will always be proud of you. We love you, Abi.

The family will be holding calling hours from 12pm – 2pm on Wednesday, February 7th at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton, NY 13069. The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time and ask that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to North Country Freedom Home Inc., https://www.stjoestreatment.org/donate in Abi’s memory.
