HANNIBAL, NY – Dale A. McFarland, 73, of Sterling, died Wednesday March 6, 2013, at Oswego Hospital.
He was born in Sterling, a son to the late Allen and Marjorie McFarland.
Dale enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1962 until 1966.
His law enforcement career began at Fair Haven Beach State Park as a park ranger/police until 1979.
He then went to work at Niagara Mohawk where he worked until his retirement in 1994.
During that time, Dale was the police officer for the village of Fair Haven.
Dale worked court security for the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department where he finally retired for good in 2008.
He was a member of the American Legion.
Dale is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eleanor McFarland of Sterling; two sons, Andrew A. (fiancé, Gail) McFarland of Hannibal and Timothy A. McFarland of Granby; two sisters, Maxine Goodsell and Carolyn Keville both of Sterling; three grandchildren, Candra (Joshua) McFarland-Gawarecki of Hannibal, Dustin McFarland and Amanda McFarland both of Scriba; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held 3 to 7 p.m. Monday with services to follow at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga St., Hannibal.
