FULTON – David H. Hawthorne, 61, of Fulton passed away peacefully at St. Joseph’s Hospital after complications of heart failure while awaiting transplant.

David was a member of the NYS Bar Association for 36 years and was the elected full time judge for the City of Fulton for 11 years.  Prior to that he was in private law practice serving Fulton and Oswego County and worked for the City of Fulton as their part time counsel.  David was also the attorney for the Fulton Housing Authority.  David was a proud graduate of the Milton Hershey School in Hershey, PA, SUNY Oswego, and Syracuse University Law School.  As an attorney, he served on the NYS Bar Association Committee of Professional Ethics.  He is a past member of the Board of Directors for the Central New York Regional Transportation Authority.

David was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He cherished his time in the woods and being swamp side at his camp in Sterling where many great memories were made.  He was a lover of music, especially the Grateful Dead, Little Feat, Phish and Pearl Jam (probably in that order) and anything his daughter was playing.

David was the son of Millard and Ellen (Fuller) Hawthorne.  He is predeceased by his daughter Elizabeth and brother Bruce.  Survived by his college sweetheart and wife of 34 years, Lisa Maheu Hawthorne, daughter Olivia, brother Dennis Sr., brother Mark, sister Joyce Cook.  ‘Great Uncle Dave’ is also survived by many nieces and nephews who grew up together like brothers and sisters.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to The Transplant House of Cleveland, Sterling Nature Center or your favorite animal rescue.  If you aren’t already, please consider being an organ donor.

Calling hours will be from 4-7 pm on Friday, April 12th at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, April 13th at the funeral home with burial to follow at Jacksonville Cemetery, Lysander.
