OSWEGO COUNTY – March 16, 2024, Denise Ann Shortslef, 59, of Sterling passed away March 16, 2024 at St. Jospeh’s Hospital.

A Sterling native, she was born in Oswego, to the late Donald J. Shortslef and Catherine “Cacky” M. King Shortslef.

She enjoyed trips to the Sterling Nature Center and Springbrook Cemetery, where she was the self-appointed “caretaker” of her family’s and friend’s plots.

Denise took great pride in the meticulous care of her yard, including mowing the lawn with perfectly straight lines and gardening, where her green thumb was evident in her flowers, many of which she started from seeds.

Not only was Denise deeply devoted to Kenny and her sisters; she supported the generation before her and the generations after her with all her heart.

Denise was a good friend, able to keep in touch with everyone and was always an encourager.

Very often Denise was the Head Clown in this family circus.  Her leadership and expertise were greatly relied upon….She was known as “The Boss”.

In addition to her parents, Denise was predeceased by an infant sister, Jeanette A. Shortslef.

Surviving to cherish her memory are her life companion, Ken Steurrys; sisters, Donna Shortslef and Deanna Shortslef; son, Kenny Steurrys; granddaughter, Ana; niece, April Diak and nephew, Dustin Diak.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at Springbrook Cemetery, Sterling.
