Gordon C. Smith

FULTON – April 18, 2024, Gordon C. Smith, 91 of Scriba passed away peacefully at Upstate University Hospital on April 18, 2024, after a brief illness.

He was born on December 14, 1932, to Roy V. and Mabel A. (Holbrook) Smith in New Haven. After graduating high school, he was employed by Sealright and Nestle. He enlisted in the United States Navy in December 1951 as an electronics technician for airplanes.

After leaving the Navy in 1955, he went on to Rochester Institute of Technology. He graduated in 1959 with a degree in Chemistry. He worked at Allied Chemical in Solvay until their closure. He worked at Nine Mile Point in the chemistry department until his retirement in 1994.

On June 27, 1959, he married Leona Lou (Sherman) in New Haven. They lived in Phoenix, Granby, Fulton, New Haven, and Scriba during their marriage, with winters in Florida for several years.

He was predeceased by his son, Gordon E. Smith, and brother, Duane R. Smith. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Leona; his children, Scott (Melissa) Smith, and Joanne Littler; three grandchildren, Ryan Littler, Leanna (Bryan) Littler-Woolf, and Trevor (Brittany) Littler, and one great grandson. He is also survived by his brother, Gene (Dorothy) Smith.

A calling hour will be from 12-1 pm on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton with a service to immediately follow at 1 pm. Burial with military honors will be in Vermillion Cemetery following the service.
