HANNIBAL, NY – Henri J. Gilbert, 84, of Hannibal, passed away Saturday August 17, 2013, at home after a brief illness.
A native of St. Prosper, Quebec, Canada, he moved to the United States in 1959.
He worked several years in the forestry industry and was a heavy equipment operator before starting his own business in 1972.
Henri was co-owner of Gilbert’s Tiles & Septic Tanks in Hannibal with his wife, Gervaise.
He enjoyed cutting wood and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He and his wife spent many winters in Florida.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Gervaise Gilbert of Hannibal; two children, Christiane (John) Gilbert Waters of Jordan and Serge Gilbert of Hannibal; five grandchildren, Michelle (Brian) Hughes Parker of Port Byron, Ryan Gilbert of Hannibal, Tim (Angel Hutchins) Hughes of Jordan, Brooke Gilbert and Justin Gilbert both of Fulton; two great-grandchildren, Austin and Tyler Parker of Port Byron; siblings, Benoit (Jacqueline) Gilbert of Canada, Ligouri Gilbert of West Virginia, Mariange, Claire, Jacqueline, Anitta and Doris Gilbert all of Canada and many nieces and nephews.
Henri was predeceased by siblings, Jeanette, Yolande, Walter, Leonard, Herbert and Clermont Gilbert; and brother, Luc Gilbert, who died June 29, 2013.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga St., Hannibal, with a memorial service following at 7 p.m.
