James K. Wellwood, 81

FULTON, NY – James K. Wellwood, 81, of Sterling, died Sunday September 29, 2013, at Oswego Hospital.

Born in Fulton, he was the son of the late Bernard and Charlene Wellwood and graduated from Fulton High School, class of 1950.

Jim had resided in Sterling since 1982.

He retired in 1995 from his position with Oswego County after 11 years of employment.

He previously worked in the field of sales and sales management with Plunkett Chemical Co. in Chicago, Ill., and Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, where he was responsible for sales and service in 28 states and two Canadian provinces.

Jim also worked for Sherwin-Williams Paints, Proctor Paint & Varnish and Montgomery Ward.

He served with the U.S. Naval Reserve Surface Division 386 in Oswego.

Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting and he actively promoted conservation education through self-syndicated illustrated newspaper columns known as “Wildwood by Wellwood.”

He was an accomplished artist with his works in private collections in the U.S. and Canada.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Shirley Wellwood of Sterling; two daughters, Cynthia (Timothy) Delaney of Sterling and Sharon (Wayne) June of Phoenix; two step-sons, Timothy (Linda) Ingison of Marysville, Wash. and Gary Ingison of Fulton; 13 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Grace Lockwood.

Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton, with services to follow at 7 p.m.
