Jean Brooks Svereika Shipos, 84

HANNIBAL, NY – Jean Brooks Svereika Shipos, 84, a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, registered nurse and friend to all died Sunday morning Nov. 13, 2016, at her home in Fair Haven, NY.

Jean and her husband, Louis, built and resided in their home for the past 29 years.

Jean was born in Phoenixville, Pa., on January 5, 1932, a daughter to the late Vernon E. and Regina Brooks formerly of Norristown, Pa.

Jean also lived in Norristown Pa.; Midway Island, Levittown, Pa.; Lahore West Pakistan, Pittsburgh, Pa.; Fulton, NY and Fair Haven.

She was an active member of God’s Vision Christian Church, an American Baptist Church in Hannibal.

Over her life, she served the church in many capacities and especially loved to sing in the church choir.

Jean was a R.N. at A. L. Lee Memorial Hospital in Fulton, where she worked in the recovery room and was the operating room supervisor until she retired in 1993.

She was active in both the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts where she received the Silver Beaver Award.

Jean’s life revolved around her family.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Alan Dale Warren, in 1968; and her second husband, George A. Svereika, in 1991.

Surviving are her husband, Louis E. Shipos of Fair Haven; four children, Alan Brooks (Beth) Warren of Greensboro, NC, formerly married to Marcia Warren of Downingtown, Pa., Jean (Steven) Norton of St. Petersburg, Fla., George Vernon Svereika of Fulton and Jon Erik (Tina) Svereika of Hannibal; four step-children, Karen (Ronald) Raeder of McLean, NY, Susan (Ken) Adams of Phoenix, Ariz., David Shipos of Ithaca, NY and Kenneth Shipos of Newfield, NY; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Barbara (William) Brooks Boyle of Collegeville, Pa.

A graveside service and burial will be held at the Riverside Cemetery, Norristown, Pa., on Thursday, November 17, at 1 p.m.

A memorial service and reception for all friends and family will be held Sunday, November 20, at 2 p.m. at God’s Vision Christian Church, 326 Church St., Hannibal.
