FULTON – November 21. 2024, Joan Ann O’Grady, 87, of Hannibal, NY, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Fulton, NY, she was the daughter of Lyle Kimball and Muriel and Nelson DeSilveria. Joan grew up in Bowens Corners, where she was always a great defender of her younger brother and spent her childhood helping on the family farm. A graduate of Kingsford Park in Oswego, NY and Hannibal Central Schools. She married James O’Grady Sr on September 10, 1955, and they built their home in Hannibal. She was a hard worker and worked as a wrapper for Nestles, retiring after many years of service.
Joan was a member of the Hannibal Fire Auxiliary in support of her husband and son who were both firefighters. She enjoyed bowling and was a leader for the Saturday morning league for Hannibal Jr/Sr high school. She was an avid collector of antiques, often dragging her grandchildren to help find deals, and enjoyed reselling at her yard sales with her sister in the backyard. Joan was a big NY Yankees and SU fan. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas, where she always had lots of gifts for everyone.
Family was her prized possession. She loved spending time with her son, grandchildren and great grandchildren every Sunday afternoon. She enjoyed preparing big dinners of roast beef, meatloaf, or canned ham then following it with a game of Rumik.
Surviving are her son, James J. (Diane Cole) O’Grady, Jr.; three grandchildren, Kelly (Marty IV) VanBuren, James J. (Susana) O’Grady III, and Joanna (Logan) Carvey; 10 great-grandchildren, Kennedy (Mathew Hughes) VanBuren, Tyler (Aubrey Avery) O’Grady, Katrina VanBuren, Bennett McRae, Benito O’Grady, Martin VanBuren V, James O’Grady IV, Natalie McRae, Elyria Carvey, Connor and Maddie Hughes; her siblings, Betty (Ray) Tietz, Vivian Cochrane, David Kimball, Bill Kimball, and Delores Hubbard; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, James J. O’Grady, Sr. and her siblings, Stanley Kimball, Wesley Kimball, Marian Osborne, and Jeanette O’Grady.
Calling hours will be from 1-3 pm on Saturday, November 30th at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga Street, Hannibal with a service to immediately follow at 3 pm. All are invited to a Celebration of Life following the service at the Hannibal Fire Company.
