HANNIBAL, NY – Joan E. D’Ambrosio, 73, of Oswego, passed away Tuesday October 1, 2013, at home.
She was the daughter of the late Allen and Alice Lucille Fowler of Oswego.
Joan had attended the Old Stone Schoolhouse District #2 in Hannibal and graduated from Hannibal High School and State University College at Oswego in 1961.
She married Vincent C. D’Ambrosio on June 25, 1961.
Joan taught third grade at Cato Elementary School and Kindergarten at Red Creek Elementary School.
While she raised her family, Joan was a substitute teacher in the Oswego City School District.
She was an active member of the West Baptist Church and had taught Sunday school from the age of 16.
She was also a member of the American Baptist Women’s Group, chairperson for the Board of Christian Education, advisor for the Local Baptist Youth Fellowship and had worked with the Gideon’s presenting Bibles to Nursing graduates.
Joan was an elections inspector in the town of Oswego, an advisor to the Con Brios 4H Club and an officer of The Faculty Wives at SUNY Oswego.
Joan is survived by her husband of 52 years, Vincent D’Ambrosio; three children, Laurel (Donald) Artz, Patricia (Karl) Keydel and David (Paul) D’Ambrosio; grandchildren, Anthony and David Artz, Gregory, Stephanie, Andrew and Kaitlyn Keydel; a sister, Barbara (Carl) Irwin; nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Foster Funeral Home, Hannibal, with burial at Fairdale Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, 837 Cayuga St., Hannibal.
