Leland O. Getman, 92

HANNIBAL, NY – Leland O. Getman, 92, of Hannibal, passed away Thursday August 21, 2014, at home following a brief illness.

Leland was born in Palermo, a son to the late, Harland and Alice Getman.

He graduated from Fulton High School and Cornell University.

Leland was employed by Cap Transportation Department of Sealright in Fulton for several years before going to work at Wigton Aluminum Co. in Oswego.

Leland also worked for Lord & Comstock in Lycoming.

In 1973, Leland began employment for Stone & Webster Engineering Co. in Scriba.

Leland was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving from April 1943 to December 1945.

His duties included basic training and combat truck driving school.

He was a clerk-typist in the Quartermaster Supply Office at the Advance Sections Communication Zone Headquarters serving England, France, Belgium, Germany and the United States.

Leland enjoyed farming, gardening and reading. He was a member of the Granby Seniors.

In addition to his parents, Leland was predeceased by a brother, Harlan Getman.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeanette L. Getman; five sons, Russell (Carol) Getman of Hannibal, Paul (Donna) Getman of Albany, Bruce (Terri) Getman of Chaska, Minn., Gary Getman of Wilmington, NC and Mark (Melissa) Getman of Hannibal; one sister, Aleta (William) Huston of Venice, Fla.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. August 26 at Hannibal United Methodist Church, 320 Church St., Hannibal.

Burial will be in Hannibal Village Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Foster Funeral Home, 837 Cayuga St., Hannibal.
