Orin S. Parsons, 92

FULTON, NY – Orin S. Parsons passed away Friday November 11, 2016, at the age of 92.

Orin S. Parsons
Orin S. Parsons

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who valued his family above all else.

Orin was born May 29, 1924, in Volney, NY, to his parents, Melrose and David Parsons, as their third of five sons.

While growing up and throughout his life Orin’s four brothers were a focal point in his world.

He cherished the memories of their boyhood adventures.

They remained steadfastly close throughout their days.

On August 18, 1946, he married Betty A. Newvine of New Haven, NY, the love of his life.

They enjoyed 57 blissful years together until Betty’s death in 2003.

Orin attended Fulton High School and was a graduate of various blueprint and drafting schools throughout his early career.

He served proudly in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II where he was introduced to the field of aircraft mechanics.

After military service, he worked 22 years in design engineering, drafting and sales for the Osborne Paper Mill Equipment Corp. in Fulton and then another 20 years for Northern Steel Corp. in Oswego until completing his professional career as a consultant for Industrial Precision Corp. also in Oswego.

He was an accomplished finish carpenter who could just as well build a barn, repair an engine, raise cattle or plow a field.

He was undaunted by any type of design or construction project.

Always, Orin applied his very best effort to any task he undertook.

It was the only way he knew.

He was a dedicated member of the Free Masons for many years and forever an avid fan of SU football and basketball and the NY Yankees.

Orin loved to reminisce about the family Black Angus farm he once had in New Haven.

Breezy Acres, as it was known, was a happy scene for hayrides and many fun-filled gatherings.

He had a curious mind and a genuine love for the people in his life.

True happiness was a game of cards with friends.

Orin was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; his parents; and brothers, Charles Parsons and Ovid Parsons.

Orin is survived by his two children, Randy A. Parsons and wife, Cheryl Parsons, of Norman, Oklahoma, and Renee Parsons and wife, Paula McBath, of Albany, NY; together with his grandson, Lucas McBath.

He is also survived by his brother, Ivan Parsons and wife, Fern Parsons, of Mount Pleasant, NY and brother, Frank Parsons and wife, Bernice Parsons, of Fulton, NY; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

The man will be missed.

Calling hours will be held 3 to 5 p.m. Friday, November 18, at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay St., Fulton.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 19, at Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church, 2819 County Route 45 near Fulton.

The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to Sally and the entire staff of Elderberry Homestead for all of their support and kindness.
