Richard Palen

FULTON – Richard Palen, 86, of Hannibal, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2026, at The Manor at Seneca Hill.

Born on February 7, 1940, Richard was raised in South Hannibal, New York, and graduated from Hannibal Central Schools. He devoted 30 years of his career to R.M. Burritt Motors, where he was a respected salesman known for his friendly personality and dedication to his customers.

Family was the center of Richard’s life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved. Following his retirement, Richard and his beloved wife enjoyed many happy winters together in Florida. He also treasured the friendships and camaraderie he shared with his neighborhood friends in Hannibal.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Ann Scott Palen, with whom he celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 30, 2026; his daughters, Nancy (John) Liddy and Judy (Andy) Peebles, both of Tully, New York; his five grandchildren, Daniel (Julia) Liddy, Eric (Meagan) Liddy, Patrick (Jacqueline) Liddy, Emily (Luke) Alletzhauser, and Lexi (Nick) Schug; three great-grandchildren; his brother, David Palen; and his sister, Sharon (Larry) Henderson.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harold Palen and Marjorie Parsons Richards.

Richard will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his warm smile, his dedication to his work, and the lasting friendships he formed throughout his life. His kindness, sense of humor, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A calling hour will be Monday, July 27, 2026 from 10:00am-11:00am with a service to immediately follow at Foster Funeral Home, 937 Cayuga St., Hannibal, NY 13074.  Burial will follow in Hannibal Village Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Richard Palen’s memory to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306
