Larry Wayne George 

Larry Wayne George, of Fulton, New York, passed away on September 1, 2026, at the  age of 75, at Iroquois Nursing Home in Syracuse. After spending time on comfort care,  Larry approached the end of his life with the same stubbornness, resilience and tenacity  that carried him through so much of it. He took his time, held on in true Larry fashion, and left only when he was good and ready.

Born to the late Marilyn and Francis George, Larry spent his life becoming the kind of person people remembered. He was hardworking, generous, caring and always willing to help someone in need. He began working on the muck farms, where he formed friendships that lasted a lifetime, later worked at Huhtamaki, and owned and operated his own pressure-washing business; K.C.’s Wash. Larry also proudly served in the United States Army from 1971 to 1975.

Larry loved making people laugh and enjoyed stories, conversation, and socialization. Larry was, at his core, someone who took care of people. He was extraordinarily generous, sometimes to a fault, and was far more comfortable giving than receiving. If someone needed help and Larry had a way to provide it, chances were he would. He worked hard his entire life, but some of the most meaningful work he did could never be measured by a paycheck.

One of Larry’s greatest accomplishments was his 21 years of sobriety. He sponsored and supported many others in recovery and understood firsthand that people are capable of change, growth and second chances. His intentions were almost always good, even if his delivery remained a lifelong work in progress, something those who loved him knew well.

He was also stubborn as hell, had opinions, could make things considerably more complicated than necessary, and possessed the remarkable ability to do things entirely on Larry’s timetable. Those who loved him wouldn’t have him described any other way. Beneath all of it was an incredibly kind man with a huge heart, fierce loyalty, and a genuine desire to take care of the people and animals he loved. Of all the relationships Larry built, none was more treasured than the one he shared with his daughter, Heather. Their story was not always easy, but his sobriety gave them the opportunity to build the relationship they both deserved. Heather was proudly and unapologetically a daddy’s girl, and the two became extraordinarily close. She remained beside him through his illnesses, advocating for him, caring for him, laughing with him and loving him through every version of what came next. He was her dad, her person and her whole world.

Larry is survived by his daughter, Heather George of Oswego; his older brother, Ronald Waldron and his wife, Joan, of Central Square; his younger brother, Michael George of Syracuse; his beloved cat, Fred 2, and his grand dog, Fiona.

He was predeceased by his parents, Marilyn and Francis George, and his furry friend, Fred1. Larry’s family is profoundly grateful to the staff of the fourth-floor Spinal Cord Injury Unit at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. Over the years, Larry and his family formed meaningful relationships with staff members and fellow patients, and their kindness, humor, friendship and compassion will always be treasured.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal service or celebration of life. If you would like to honor Larry, help someone who needs it, offer a little more grace than necessary, or simply show up for someone. He spent much of his life doing exactly that, and there could be no more fitting way to remember him. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to James A. Menter Funeral Home.

Larry’s daughter, Heather, would especially like to thank Zach Menter for the kindness, patience, compassion, and genuine care he showed her while helping her navigate something no daughter is ever quite prepared for. Larry loved cards and the personal connection that came with receiving them. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that those who knew him consider sharing a favorite memory, story, joke or moment they shared with Larry so those memories can be collected and kept by his daughter who follows in his footsteps with this, and so much more.
