Anastasia C. Gagas

OSWEGO – 11/02/1959 to 5/18/2025, Anastasia C. Gagas, beloved partner, daughter, sister, and aunt passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025, surrounded by her family after a brief illness.

Anastasia was born in Oswego to Constance and Chris Gagas. She was a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology and pursued careers in Finance and Healthcare Administration in New York City before being attending law school and earning a Juris Doctor from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.

After returning to Oswego, she established her own practice focused on commercial, criminal, and family law, representing defendants in courts across Oswego County and Central New York. She was particularly proud of her work in child advocacy. For the past ten years, Anastasia was also an adjunct professor in the SUNY Oswego School of Communications.

She was an accomplished lifelong knitter and reveled in both accomplishing difficult patterns as well as tutoring new knitters.

Anastasia is survived by her partner of 27 years, James Rizzo; her father, Chris Gagas; her brothers Charles (Claire) and Gregory (Holly) of California, and Adam of Oswego, and nieces Aryana and Raisa; and a nephew, Rustam.

Calling hours will be held at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 W. Albany St. on Thursday, May 22nd from 3-6 pm, with a Trisagion service at 3 pm.  Funeral Services will be held at The Church of the Resurrection, 120 West Fifth Street, at 2 pm on Friday, May 23rd. Burial will follow in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Friends of Riverside Cemetery, 4024 County Route 57 Oswego, NY 13126.  Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
