OSWEGO – Bernice Elleane Bateman, 95, of Oswego, passed away on December 28, 2023.
Born and raised in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Hazel (King) McLaughlin.
Bernice worked at the Oswego Candy Works in her early years. She then worked as a Teacher’s Aide for kindergarten in the Oswego City School District. She worked at Minetto Elementary for 22 years. She loved her job and children so much she continued taking care of them after retirement, providing childcare out of her home. Bernice was a regular church goer and active member of Journey of Faith, formally SouthWest Church, in the Town of Oswego. Always involved, she enjoyed working the church suppers, sang in the choir, and was also a member of the Evening Torch church group. Bernice also loved to bake and enjoyed playng Bingo.
Bernice is survived by her loving daughter Diane Bateman Wallace and granddaughter Janelle Elleane Wallace.
In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her husband Ernest and her siblings Viola Sweet, Tracy McLaughlin and Fred McLaughlin.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, January 4, 2023 from 3-5 with a service to follow at Nelson Funeral Home, Oswego. Spring burial will be in Oswego Town Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
