OSWEGO – Donald G. Blum, 90, of Oswego, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family, on December 7, 2025.
Born and raised in Oswego, Don was the son of the late Charles L. and Beryl (LeRoy) Blum Sr.
Don graduated from Oswego High School. He was a proud US Veteran, having served in the Army from 1954-1957. Don was a butcher for more than 50 years and was employed by Top’s Grocery Store and Davis Brothers Inc. He was well known and viewed as a legend by many for his years of dedication to and involvement in the Oswego community. He coached baseball for 29 years, Minor Hockey for 2 years, and was on the Oswego High School Band Parent Association for 16 years. Don also served on the Oswego Buc Booster Board of Directors and drove Oswego City School District buses for 26 years. In his free time, he enjoyed golf and was a talented painter. Don adored his family above all and will be missed by all who knew him.
Don is survived by his loving children: daughters Jeannine (Eric) Kaminski, Lisa Gray, and Maureen (Doug) King, and sons Gary Blum, Lawrence (Cheryl) Blum, Christopher (Kathleen) Blum, Timothy (Carie) Blum, and Michael (Jamie Lyn) Blum. He also leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his wife Arlene (Reynolds) Blum, his brothers Jack Blum, Charles Blum Jr., Bill Blum, and Jerry Blum, his sister Betty Roy, and his infant sister Darlene Blum, and his great-grandsons Stanley D. Blum and Scott Christopher Dennis.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, December 11, 2025, from 3-6 pm at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany Street. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Friday, December 12th, at St. Mary of the Assumption Parish and Shrine, 103 West 7th Street. Burial will follow in St Peter Cemetery. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
