Donald H. Day

OSWEGO – Donald H. Day, 92, of Oswego, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2024.

Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Russell Sr. and Cora (Ketchum) Day.

Don started working at Sealwright in 1949.  He later was employed by Hammermill and then retired from Alcan as an electrician.  Don served as a Sergeant in the US Army during the Korean War and later served in the Army Reserves.

He was an accomplished athlete.  In high school, Don was a pitcher for the baseball team, and also played football and basketball.  He continued to stay active throughout his life and enjoyed softball and golf. Don was also an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.  He was a member of the Oswego Elks Club for more than 50 years.

Don is survived by his loving children Peggy Cuyler, Donna Day and George “Beaver” Buske.  He  also leaves behind beloved grandchildren Kirra Buske, Danielle Cliff, Jessica Sleezer, Kevin, Adam, and Ryan Cuyler, as well as 9 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents Don was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Congetta “Dolly” Day in 2017 and his siblings Russell Day Jr., Robert Day, Ruth Smith and Mary Murray.

Family and friends are invited to call from 1-4 pm on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany Street.  A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 10 am at Christ the Good Shepherd, at St. Joseph’s Church.  Burial will follow at Oswego Town Rural.  Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
