OSWEGO, NY – Ellen R. Richards, 89, of Oswego, passed away at Oswego Hospital on August 30, 2023. Born in Volney, Ellen was the daughter of the late Harrison and Cora (Bryant) Spaulding.
Ellen was a kind and loving wife, mother and homemaker. She adored her family and loved taking care of and spending time with them. She also looked forward to her time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ellen loved watching her great-grandsons play ball. Breakfast with family on Saturdays was a cherished ritual. Ellen was also an avid reader and enjoyed baking and gardening.
Ellen is survived by her sons Donald (Connie Barker) Richards, Ronald Richards, and Douglas Richards, four grandchildren Jameson Richards, Deborah (Leonard) Tilton, Thomas Doody-Richards, and Amanda Marie Richards, as well as three great-grandchildren Jack, Nathan, and Benjamin Tilton. She also leaves behind her dear friends Barbara Jodway and Lorraine Trenca.
In addition to her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Henry Richards in 2015, her daughter Deborah Jean Richards in 1954, her sisters Marion Guernsey, Ester Moore, Dorothy Vickery, and Murriel Rice, and her daughter-in-law Susan Richards who passed earlier this year.
Graveside services are planned for those wishing to pay their respects on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 10 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery on Old Route 57, Bundyville, NY. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
