OSWEGO – On April 27, 2025, Frederick A. Orr passed into the arms of his Heavenly Father in Scriba surrounded by family and friends.
Born in Oswego, Fred was the only son of the late Frederick J. and Violet (Porter).
Fred attended Oswego schools and played on the varsity football and baseball teams, where he met and married his first wife, the late Joan Buske. Soon after his high school experience, Fred worked for Marathon Paper Company, Hammermill, and International Paper, accumulating 47 years of service as a pipefitter and team leader in the paper production and maintenance department.
His social life was full and enjoyable. He was an avid Yankee fan and softball catcher for many years with the Oswego Industrial teams. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing trips, and his hunting camp at Big Moose Station. He loved his family, taking them and the neighbor kids to the Oswego Speedway, bowling, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, and golfing.
Years after Joan’s unexpected passing, Fred met and married his current wife of nearly 22 years, Cynthia J. Crawley-Orr. Fred and Cindy were married at the Oswego Alliance Church on October 18, 2003, and enjoyed many years of fellowship there. His fondest role was to serve as a church usher.
Whatever the social milieu, he was universally known as a good guy, a good friend, fair, just, and honest. He was known for his quick wit and his knee-slapping one-liners. Fred had a phenomenal memory and was an expert Sum-Doku player, always thorough, a perfectionist, and had a great work ethic. Fred was a quiet hero.
Fred is survived by his son Frederick C. (Dawn Sawyer) Orr Sr., daughter Amy Jo Orr, step-son Chawn (Victoria) Crawley, grandsons Frederick C. (Jessica Rettig Ponti) Orr Jr., Tristan Orr, Chawn Charles Crawley, Hadrian Hyland, and Ethan Hyland, and great-grandson Nolan Orr. Fred is also survived by his sister Barbara Perfetti.
In addition to his first wife and parents, Fred is predeceased by sisters Margaret Lundy, Ruth Shurtliff, and Violet Jean Sanders.
