Janet Harris

Janet Harris

OSWEGO – Janet Harris, 84, of Oswego passed away on January 6, 2024.

Born in Philadelphia PA, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Myrtle May (Miller) Royles.

Janet worked for Oswego City School District at Kingsford Park School for more than 20 years. She loved her job. Janet was known as “Mom” to many of the students she worked with over the years and that was something which brought her great joy and pride throughout her retirement years. She loved bumping into former students and seeing how life had developed for them.

Janet was a devoted wife and mother.  She adored her children and grandchildren.  Janet fervently supported all her children’s and grandchildren’s interests and endeavors, including educational, athletic, and personal pursuits. She attended most things her children and grandchildren were involved in and was always a great source of encouragement and inspiration to her family when the inevitable challenges of life presented themselves.

Janet loved people. She thrived in social settings and looked forward to meeting new folks and staying in touch with old friends through local events, retirement luncheons with former Kingsford Park colleagues, and the Women’s Business group dinners and activities she had become involved with.  Janet and her husband Fritz were big ice hockey fans. They attended as many Oswego Men’s Laker games as possible throughout their retirement years. She loved the water and spent many boating weekends on Fair Haven Bay, making great memories with her family and friends.

Janet was preceded in death by her loving husband of 58 years, Clifford, “Fritz” in 2019.

Janet is survived by her adoring children Jeanne Harris Walsh (Fiancé Joe Malone) and her ex-husband James Walsh, Kevin F. Harris of Dryden, New York, and his partner Ginny Ruthven, and she also leaves behind four grandchildren; Chelsea Pickus (Louie Pickus), Courtney Walsh, Madeline Harris, and Katherine Harris.

Per Janet’s wishes, there will be no services. A celebration of life will be planned in the future to honor both Janet and Fritz’s memory. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
