OSWEGO – Janet M. Rossiter-Matthews, 77, of Oswego, passed away with her loving family by her side on September 9, 2024.

Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, she was the daughter of the late John and Betty (Smegelsky) Jaekle.

Janet earned her Associate’s Degree from Cayuga Community College.  She worked as a teacher’s assistant for St. Paul’s Elementary School for many years and went on to work at JC Penny Department Store.

Janet was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts of America. She loved animals of all kinds, and she had a larger than life personality.  She loved to have fun and Halloween was her favorite holiday. Above all things, Janet adored her family. She cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren.

Janet is survived by her loving husband Patrick T. Matthews, and children Scott L. (Trisha) Rossiter of Mexico, Jody J. (Jenn) Rossiter of Penfield, and Heather M. (Michael) Woolson, of Oswego. She also leaves behind 8 adored grandchildren Aden Renfer, Caitlin Rossiter, Madi Rossiter, Bella Rossiter, Kellan Rossiter, Hunter Woolson, Alisha Rossiter, and Wyatt Woolson.

In addition to her parents, Janet was predeceased by her 1st husband and father of her children Kurt L. Rossiter in 1983.

Family and friends are invited to call from 4-6 pm on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany Street.

A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Christ the Good Shepherd Church, 134 East 5th Street.  Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Janet’s name to the American Stroke Association.  Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
