Janice Metcalf Drumm

OSWEGO – Janice (Jan) Metcalf Drumm passed away peacefully on June 4th, 2025, in Oswego, NY.  Janice was born in Oswego on May 13, 1935, to Robert and May Rossiter Metcalf. Janice married William Drumm in 1955 and gave birth to twin sons, Tom and Bill.

In her early years, Jan worked as a crossing guard on Liberty and Bridge Streets. Jan also worked at Sears and as a telephone operator for the New York Telephone Company for several years. Jans primary career was as a Law Librarian with the NYS Supreme Court, where she kept the law library operations running smoothly for 23 years before her retirement in 1996.

Jan deeply loved her family pets and all animals in general. Her dogs Tramp, Choo Choo, Barney, Keeper, Doylie, Bloomy, Lucy, and Jazzy all filled her heart with great joy.

Jan enjoyed exercising and swimming at the YMCA, gardening, and her beautiful gardens were a point of pride.

One of Jans favorite hobbies was antiquing with her daughter-in-law Pam and dear friend Kathy Vandermark, and along the way, they may have made some stops at the Finger Lakes wineries.

Jan is survived by her sons Thomas Drumm(Pam) and William Drumm( Regina), former daughter-in-law Mary Ann Drumm, brother Thomas Metcalf, sister-in-law Rose (Joe) Besch and niece Lois Lesh(Walter).  Jan is also survived by three beloved grandchildren, Lindsey Drumm Felkner(Andrew), Kaelyn Drumm Carroll(Taylor) and Thomas Drumm(Katrina). Jan was also a great-grandmother to five beautiful little ones, Brooklyn, Maxwell and Theo Felkner, Delaney and Reed Carroll. Jan was affectionately known as  Gramma Lady and Zsa by her sweet grand/great-grandchildren. A very special friend, Kathy Vandermark, will always hold a place in Jans heart, as well as long time friends Mary Clark and Janice Pelow.

Jan was predeceased by her grandparents, Bertha and William Rossiter, mother May Rossiter, father Robert Sr. and stepmother Genevieve Metcalf, uncles Dick and Jack Rossiter, Aunt Doris May,  brother Robert Metcalf and sister-in-law Helen Metcalf.

The family would like to thank the 1st floor nurses and staff at  Seneca Manor for their compassionate care of Jan over the past few months as well as Dr. Padma Ram and nurses Emille and Kim for their dedication to Jans care over the years.

Family and friends are invited to call from 4-6 pm on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany Street, Oswego. Burial will take place in Oswego Town Rural Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please kindly consider contributions in Jan
