Jerome (Jerry) Snowdon Smith

Hannibal – Jerome (Jerry) Snowdon Smith passed away on February 9, 2024, as a result of exposure to Agent Orange while serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War (Purple Heart Recipient).

Jerry was born on June 13, 1948, in Manlius, New York to Elizabeth Sanders Smith and Walter Snowdon Smith, III. He was raised in Manlius and moved with his family to Victor, New York during high school. He attended Lincoln College in Lincoln, Illinois

Jerry was a longtime employee of Time Warner Cable, working up and down the East Coast in such areas as South Carolina, Florida, and Cape Cod and in later years, at Fairpoint Marina in Fair Haven. Jerry was an avid reader, a true lover of nature, and an outdoorsman. He was a lifelong avid fisherman and nothing made Jerry happier than being around the waters of Lake Ontario.  The family summer compound on Lake Ontario in Picton, Ontario was his true “home”.

Jerry is survived by his two sisters, Tracey S. Harris (late Richard G.) of Glenville, New York, and Brooke Smith of Ballston Spa, New York; his precious nieces and nephews; and his former wife Nancy Wainwright of Annapolis, Maryland. He is also survived by his close and special friends in Hannibal, Rocky Craver, Emily Baker, and their two children, and Kevin Hadcock. He was predeceased by his parents.

At Jerry’s request, there will not be a memorial service. He will be interred at Gerald B.H.Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville, New York.

Contributions are encouraged to be made in Jerry’s name to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of Nelson Funeral Home.
