OSWEGO – John T. Tonkin, 89, of Oswego passed away on February 6, 2024, with his loving family by his side.
Born in Oswego, John was the son of the late Geroge T. and Alice C. (Stanley) Tonkin.
John worked for Marathon Corp. for a number of years and then worked as a milkman for Curtis Manor. He later worked for over 26 years at and retired from, Alcan. He was a member of the Oswego Elks Club and was also an avid golfer. John loved his family, his home, and taking care of his loved ones.
John is survived by his wife, of 66 years, Linda (Brower) Tonkin and his daughters Elaine M. (Bernard) Johnson, Margaret M. ( Larry) Dunsmore, and Patricia A. (Ken) Foley, all of Oswego. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Stephanie A. (Matt) Haynes, Lindsay (Brad) Calkins, Brian T. (Jessica) Johnson, Adam J. (Jena Piazza) Foley, and Brandon T. Foley, and great-grandchildren Adeline, Kyle, Madison, Carson, and Jackson.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother Richard Tonkin.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, February 8, 2024, from 3-6 pm at Nelson Funeral Home, 11 West Albany Street. A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held at 10 am on Friday, February 9th at St. Mary Parish and Shrine, Oswego. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.
