Margaret A. Smith

OSWEGO – Margaret A. Smith, 88, of Oswego, passed away on September 23, 2026.

Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late James & Helen (Schaffer) Fantom.

Margaret worked for many years as a clerk at Wayne’s Drug Store. She loved helping and talking with all the customers who came in. She had many adventures in Atlantic City with her beloved friends and enjoyed Monday night bingo.  Most importantly, Margaret’s biggest joy was family.  Be it a holiday, birthday celebration or just a Sunday afternoon cookout, she always made it special.   She was a supportive racing Mom and Grandmother and attended many cold hockey games to watch her grandchildren play.     She loved being a mom and grandmother.

Margaret was well known and loved by all who had the good fortune of meeting her.

She is survived by her children, Peggy (Bob) Haynes of Kirkville, Chris (Amy) Smith of Oswego, and Jennifer (Shawn Malloy) Grinnals of Pauline, SC. She is also survived by her 4 grandchildren, Bobby Haynes, Cory Grinnals, Ellie Grinnals, and Cole Smith.

Margaret is predeceased by her husband Robert David Smith and a son, Robert Smith, of Oswego. In addition to her parents, and six siblings, Katie, Liz, Jimmy, Bobby, Shirley and Tommy.

A graveside service will be held on Monday September 28th at Riverside Cemetery, Oswego, at 10:00 am. Arrangements are under the caring guidance of the Nelson Funeral Home.
